Ultimate Music Theory

The curriculum for the Ultimate Music Theory Club Group Classes:

is suitable for all students whatever the learning style, be it visual, oral, kinestethic, with special needs, or the more mature learner; and

is lots of fun and has lots of games!

is easy and builds step by step, following the scaffolding approach;
incorporates music literature, music history and the great composers; and
is prepares adult students to go from a complete beginner right up to the level required to sit exams for Music Theory ABRSM (approx 1 year of lessons). Grade 5 Music Theory exam is a prerequisite for all musicians wanting to take exams in their chosen instrument for Grade 6 and above (eg ABRSM, Trinity etc).

Venue

Students may choose to study entirely online in our virtual group training. Or you may instead attend classes in person at one of our studios.

Benefits

Music theory is a useful skill to gain, so that you can read music with confidence. This also helps to improve your speed at sight reading too. Music theory is useful to any musician studying to learn any instrument, be it the voice, the guitar, the cello, the saxophone etc. If you are taking music as a subject at high school, our music theory classes are helpful revision as you prepare for your entrance exams for university.

Class Size

Our group music theory club classes are limited to a maximum of six students per session.

Tools

All students, regardless of which level workbook or what age, will need the following tools to use during class and for home practice. These are available for purchase directly from us when you enrol onto any of our group classes. Alternatively, you may purchase these yourself online.

ADULT BEGINNERS INTENSIVE to Grade 5 Music Theory ABRSM

These group classes foster collaborative learning, and will provide mature students with a solid foundation in music theory. You don’t need any prior knowledge of music theory to get started, as we start at the very basics – and each week we move through the syllabus. By the time you have completed the entire “Complete Rudiments” Ultimate Music Theory course, you will be more than ready to sit your Grade 5 exam in Music Theory with ABRSM. To test your readiness, at the end of the course you will sit a UMT exam with us. And on achieving a minimum of 80 percent test result, we will issue you with your Ultimate Music Theory – Complete Music Theory Course Certificate.

This class works through the COMPLETE Rudiments Workbook, and is completed alongside the COMPLETE Supplemental Workbook. This is a proven comprehensive programme for successful learning. It is designed for the accelerated learner.

YOUNGER CHILDREN

CHILDREN’S Beginner ABC Music Theory Club Class

These CHILDREN’S group classes are for ages 6 – 10 years. During class we use the Music Theory Beginner ABC Series. It is fun and engaging and uses sight and ear games. The ABC workbooks are the starting point for students. With the ABC series, students learn about the keyboard, staff, landmark notes, analysis, patterns and direction, and time signatures.

Our classes foster collaborative learning, and will provide young students with a solid foundation in music theory. We use practical applications and make learning fun and engaging through music games and piano exploration.

During class we use the Music Theory Beginner ABC Series. It is fun and engaging and uses sight and ear games. The ABC workbooks are the starting point for students. With the ABC series, students learn about the keyboard, staff, landmark notes, analysis, patterns and direction, and time signatures.

When you have paid for the classes, you will receive the “UMT Beginner ABC Bundle” consisting of the:
(1) UMT Beginners ABC Ultimate Music Theory workbook/s;
(2) your UMT supplementary worksheets;
(3) UMT games; and
(4) other materials to continue with learning at home.

Duration: 1 hour group classes, x4 a month, in person from our studios, or online via Zoom.

OLDER CHILDREN & TEENS

ALL AGES Music Theory Club Class

These group classes are for everyone from ages 10 years plus and teenagers based on which level of music theory workbook they are going through. On enrolment, you will sit a short assessment with us so we can determine which workbook is suitable for you to start with.

Prep 1 Rudiments is the class for beginner’s students, aged 10 years and above. Prep 1 Rudiments introduces students to pitch, pentascales, accidentals, rhythm and more. Together with the Prep 1 workbook, you will use the Prep 1 supplementary workbook and Level 1 supplementary, to focus on writing melodies, concepts and anlysis, and music history.

Option 1 – PREP 1 Rudiments Group Class

Our group classes foster collaborative learning, and will provide students with a solid foundation in music theory. We use practical applications and make learning fun and engaging through music games and piano exploration.

Option 2 – PREP 2 Rudiments Group Class

Prep 2 Rudiments Group class, introduces students to the Grand Staff, Scales in major and minor, Circle of 5ths with 2 sharps and 2 flats, simple time, analysis and more.

Together with the Prep 2 workbook, you will use the Level 2 supplementary workbook and Level 3 supplementary, to focus on writing melodies, concepts and anlysis, and music history.

On receipt of payment in full for the classes, you will receive the “UMT Prep Bundle” consisting of the:
(1) UMT Ultimate Music Theory workbook;
(2) your UMT supplementary workbooks;
(3) UMT games; and
(4) worksheets and other materials to continue with learning at home.

Duration: 1 hour group classes, x4 a month, in person from our studios (and/or online via Zoom).
