I am just checking my email now to see what is the plan for today’s service. Today is the second Epiphany. There are two bible readings as follows:
- Reading: Genesis 12:1-7 (p12)
The Call of Abram
1The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. 2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.[a]3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”[b] 4 So Abram went, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran. 5He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there. 6 Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. 7 The LORD appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring[c] I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him.

- Reading: Luke 5:27-32 (p975)
Jesus Calls Levi and Eats With Sinners
27 After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. “Follow me,” Jesus said to him, 28and Levi got up, left everything and followed him. 29 Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them. 30But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” 31 Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

Today I should be doing some singing in the church music band. But I’ve woken up with what appears to be bronchitis and a very runny nose. So I am not entire sure whether I’ll be able to manage it. However, I’m making myself a hot drink and am wrapped up warm. Anything could happen, I might improve, hopefully.
I was too tired to make it to music practice last week, so I am just trying to figure out the songs (what do they sound like and what are the lyrics) for the service today. Many of these appear to be new and I have not come across them before.

[2] B24 Praise is rising
Hosanna (Praise Is Rising), Written by Brenton Brown and Paul Baloche
Praise is rising, eyes are turning to You, we turn to You
Hope is stirring, hearts are yearning for You, we long for You
‘Cause when we see You, we find strength to face the day
In Your Presence all our fears are washed away, washed away
Chorus:
Hosan – na, hosanna
You are the God Who saves us, worthy of all our praises
Hosan – na, hosanna
Come have Your way among us
We welcome You here, Lord Jesus
Verse 2:
Hear the sound of hearts returning to You, we turn to You
In Your Kingdom broken lives are made new, You make us new
‘Cause when we see You, we find strength to face the day
In Your Presence all our fears are washed away, washed away

[3] B7 Sovereign Lord, over all
VERSE 1:
Sovereign Lord over all,
You are reigning forever.
Worship flows from our lips,
We have come for just one glimpse.
PRE-CHORUS:
We sing hal – le – lu – jah,
Hal – le – lu – jah,
Hal – le – lu – jah.
CHORUS:
Majesty, reign in me,
Your right hand enfolding me.
Earth adore, heaven sing,
At the sight of Christ the King.
VERSE 2:
Lord of Lords now enthroned,
Who can stand in Your presence?
Fire of love, Holy One,
You burn brighter than the sun.

[4] HON 144: Dear Lord and Father of mankind
1. Dear Lord and Father of mankind, forgive our foolish ways; reclothe us in our rightful mind, in purer lives thy service find, in deeper reverence, praise.
2. In simple trust like theirs who heard, beside the Syrian sea, the gracious calling of the Lord, let us, like them, without a word, rise up and follow thee.
3. O sabbath rest by Galilee, O calm of hills above, where Jesus knelt to share with thee the silence of eternity, interpreted by love!
4. Drop thy still dews of quietness, till all our strivings cease; take from our souls the strain and stress, and let our ordered lives confess the beauty of thy peace.
5. Breathe through the heats of our desire thy coolness and thy balm; let sense be dumb, let flesh retire; speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire, O still, small voice of calm.

[6] HON 67 Be still, for the presence
Quite a variety. Well, now I know what is what. I better get going.
Its rather funny. When I arrived to church this morning I discovered that the song “Rise and Shine” that I had been practising, was the wrong version! And I had learnt the wrong words! Fortunately I was given a print out to use. The words I was supposed to sing instead, were as follows:
“Verse 1
We are climbing Jesus ladder, ladder (x3)
Children of the Lord
Chorus
So let’s all
Rise and shine, and give God the glory, glory
rise and shiine, and give God the glory, glory
rise and shine, and give God the glory, glory
Children of the Lord.
Verse 2
We are following where he leads us, leads us (x3)
Children of the Lord
Verse 3
We are reaching out to others, others (x3)
Children of the Lord
Verse 4
We are one with all who serve him, serve him (x3)
Children of the Lord.”
